Come and stay in the original stone and thatch farmhouse, infused with charm and character and a sense of days gone by. Wide Horizons was built in the 1950s on the slopes of the Makhungutsha Mountain, miles from anywhere yet peacefully a part of the KaNdinda community. Its enchanting history and sense of place leaves one wondering what dream ignited its creation.
In the early 1970's after a great overland journey through Africa to Swaziland by Giles Roques and his daring friends - all the way from England, adventure has long been an inspiration behind Wide Horizons. Rose and Giles Roques settled at Wide Horizons in 1973 turning it into their dream home with the goal of working with the rural community to develop sustainable agriculture and natural resource projects around Swaziland. This enchanting home, (now made available as a Lodge for all to appreciate and value) has one of the most spectacular locations in the Kingdom of Eswatini. Framed against a beautiful backdrop with stunning panoramic views, the farmhouse is unique, warm & spacious. The road to Wide Horizons is certainly an adventure, but a destination so worth the journey. As you travel the bumpy gravel road to get to us, spare a thought for the days of donkey carts, horse travel and foot expeditions. Oh how transport has evolved. Wide Horizons is well off the beaten track, tucked away in the mountains, far from contemporary living. We invite you to unplug from the busy-ness of city living and step into the Africa of old, where space and time have a different value and quality. We welcome you to step away from modern technology's gadgets and devices to reconnect with nature.
